How to use SkyDrive to play Videos and Music on your Space

 

SkyDrive is a new service by Microsoft that lets you upload and host files for your own use. It is available in India, UK and the US market only as of now. So if you are in these regions you can use it for hosting your banner, music and videos to play on spaces or any other website that you might have. It gives you a total space of 1GB and you can even access the public folders of your friends.

• Go to SkyDrive and sign in with your windows live account.
• You will notice a panel with various options. Click on the Public folder icon.

 

• You will notice various options through which you can create new folders, etc. For now, click on Add files.

• Browse through you computer and upload the file you want. In my case I am going to upload a music file titled 'Stronger'.
• After uploading go to where you file is uploaded in the public folder. You will see various options through which you can embed the file into your blog so people can download it or an option to send the file via email and so on. We don't require this as you cannot display your banner or play your music or videos through the direct link given or the embed option. To play music or videos on your space through the media player you need a hotlink which means a direct link to the actual file in question.

To get the hotlink...

• Right click the file icon (Picture, music, video or any other file format)
• From the drop down menu, select Copy Shortcut (if you are using IE or select Copy link location if you are using Firefox browser)
• When you paste this link anywhere (ctrl+v) or right click, paste) you will notice it is quite long and it has a ?download at the end of it. Delete that bit.

This is the hotlink that we require and it can be used in the media player. Just make sure your file is in an acceptable format (like .wmv, .mp3, .avi, etc). You can even shorten the URL using tinyurl if you want but it is not necessary.

 

• Now add the Windows Media Player to your Space
• Position it where ever you want. You can even choose to make the media player invisible so that music will be played but there will be no media player module showing up on your space in the preview mode.
• Click on the Edit link found on the media player module.
• The page will refresh and you will be asked for a link/URL.
• Paste the hotlink that we modified and saved earlier.
• Click on the Save button after you have done it and preview your space.

 

 

You will hear your music or see your video play...

Done!

Live Spaces comments viewer

 

Live Spaces feed viewer lets you see recent comments for any public space. You can use it to read all the recent comments made on your blog. Spaces by default shows only 10 recent most comments but using this application you can view even more than 100+ recent comments.

You can either browse your recent comments archived via blog entry titles or just view all your recent comments at one go, the former being a more faster way to browse older comments but if you want to look at the past 20 - 30 comments made on various blog posts the latter is more useful.

Please use this software for your own personal use only.

After downloading the software, run it. Then enter your space address in the address field. For example mine is d3vmax. Then click on check for comments.

如果有人問「嬰兒哈哈笑有什麼好看」？答案則是：「真的很好看」。一名小男嬰被家人逗得哈哈大笑的短片，去年十一月被上傳到熱門網站 YouTube，短短三個月來風靡近九百萬網友熱烈點閱，連美國主流媒體也難擋這名小男孩魅力，在新聞時段播出這支短片。
　　小男嬰哈哈笑的短片，是由一名在哈薩克註冊登記的 YouTube 成員所上傳的，內容其實非常簡單，就是一名戴著藍色圍兜的金髮男嬰，被家人發出「叮」、「咚」等聲音逗得哈哈大笑，樂不可支。如此「簡單」的一分四十秒短片，卻是魅力無窮，或許是男孩天真可愛的清脆笑聲，成功擄獲了忙碌現代社會中的大人們。
　　二零零六年十一月上傳到 YouTube 網站之後，馬上獲得大批網友喜愛，加上一傳十十傳百的轉寄效果推波助瀾，過去短短三個月就獲得高達八百八十多萬的點閱率，人氣指數甚至超過不少許多好萊塢影星精心製作拍攝的短片。

Get some new themes for your Space!

We’ve been spending a lot of time lately working on making your space load faster and adding cool video features; but we know that you all LOVE new themes and customization options.

So we asked a few of the designers from Windows Live to create some new default themes for you all.   AND, if you’re into basketball – there are a bunch of LeBron James themes under the sports category as part of the upcoming LeBron challenge on MSN (more on that coming soon).

Note: All of these themes are available in English speaking countries now and will be available worldwide at the end of the month with the exception of the Lebron themes which are currently only available in  the US.

Also, don’t forget that if you’re using the “Colors” feature to change the colors in your space (for text, links, backgrounds etc.), that your colors will be applied to the new themes when you browse through them.  To see the themes without your colors, go to Customize > Colors and click the link to “Clear your settings and use the default colors” (if you don’t click Save, you won’t lose your custom colors if you decide you don’t like any of the new themes. Make sure you click Cancel!)

Talking about Apple's iPhone

pr0xy k1ll3r from liveandbeyond.com has a few good points on the iPhone...

"Despite the fancy UI and all the buzz created around Apple’s iPhone here is the low down on why it sucks…

1. It will be a closed platform running software approved by Apple only. That means Apple will get a huge cut from selling the software through its iTunes store. It may even charge a dollar per ring tone.

2. It does not have 3G, but will have EGDE (2.5 G). EDGE is so 2006. 3G is faster but eats up the battery life, and apple may not have a good battery in place to support 3G.

3. You cannot have an extra battery for iPhone. It is sealed. wtf? You can’t carry an extra battery?! Or do you have to send it back to Apple to change it so that they can charge you more money for it. What about when the phone hangs up, as most smart phones do? The best solution is to remove the battery and restart again as none of the buttons or touch screen buttons work. Let me see how they get around this problem…

4. The Price: $499 (4GB) or $599(8GB) with a two year contract, by the time the contract is over your iPhone will probably be scratched all over like the Nano or be made obsolete by better phone on the market. Think at the pace at which the gadget market is going. 4Gb in 2008 - 2009 ? CRAP!!!

5. Other reasons are poor battery life, no expansion slot, what is the RAM, Processor speed and other technical details?

uhm.. Let me see how Steve Jobs thinks he can capture 1% of the mobile phone market with this high priced phone that only high-end users can afford. Who knows, maybe he can but only by riding on the current popularity of the iPod…"
